Surveillance of invasive bacterial diseases in Europe, 2012 : invasive pneumococcal disease, invasive Haemophilus influenzae disease and invasive meningococcal disease

This report describes the occurrence of invasive bacterial diseases (IBD) in Europe during 2012, based on data collected through The European Surveillance System (TESSy). Invasive bacterial diseases remain an important public health issue across Europe and continue to cause serious disease in several countries, particularly among young children and the elderly. The main aim of this report is to provide information on the morbidity, epidemiological trends and circulating strains of invasive bacterial diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria meningitidis in Europe.
