Survey Estimates of Wealth A Comparative Analysis and Review of the Survey of Income and Program Participation

Previous studies have identified possible shortcomings in the SIPP data on wealth, raising concerns about using these data for research purposes. This report compares recent SIPP estimates of wealth with those derived from the Survey of Consumer Finances and the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, identifies both strengths and limitations of the SIPP data, and recommends a number of improvements that the Census Bureau should undertake.
