Sustainable Upgrading for Informal Areas Towards Tourism Promotion : Case Study Fishermen’s Village in Egypt
In the past few years, the world had suffered from a large drop in economy especially throughout the tourism sector. Developing countries were discovering new forms of tourism that would help the poor in upgrading their living and satisfying their needs of settlement. Not all informal areas of the world can change into an attractive touristic place, only those that would have special potentials and characteristics. This research argues that there are informal areas, where informal tourism principles and vast opportunities exist, however, not exploited. The aim of this paper is to achieve a sustainable social, economic and environmental upgrading for informal areas to promote informal tourism. This paper will study informal areas and their nature & introduce informal tourism and its benefits. It shall demonstrate an example of informal tourism upgrading in Brazil & Indonesia informal areas and will finally lead to design criteria based on the developing principles of informal tourism promotion. Finally the assessment of the case study of fishermen's village in Al Max, Alexandria city in Egypt to reach a set of recommendations
