Targeted study on the application of Directive 2011/77/EU on the term of protection of copyright and certain related rights : final report

This study covered the whole EU through information and data gathered during the desk research and the interviews with EU umbrella organisations. The national fieldwork focused on a sample of 18 EU Member States, namely: the Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Finland and Sweden. The findings reported in this study are based on three main sources: - Desk research of relevant literature and datasets on cultural employment, private households' expenditure on cultural goods and services, national accounts concerning music and audiovisual industries, and notably on cinema admissions and films' popularity in Europe; - Thirty-two in-depth interviews with EU umbrella organisations representing relevant stakeholders in the music and audiovisual sectors, with CMOs managing music performers' and/or record producers' rights in the target countries, as well as with a set of music performers' associations, record producers' associations, experts in copyright law and relevant national authorities in eight focus Member States; and - Two online surveys targeting a range of stakeholders in the music and audiovisual sectors, which were open for a six-week period from October until December 2021.
