Teacher’s Preparedness and Perception on Information and Communication Technology Utilisation for Classroom Instruction in Secondary Schools Katsina Metropolis

The study covers public school teachers of both senior and junior secondary schools within Katsina metropolis that are funded by the state government. It is an empirical research paper which adopted a descriptive survey research design. A validated instrument with reliability coefficient at Cronbach 0.71, and a title “Teacher Utilisation of Information Communication Technology in Classroom Instruction (TUICTCI)”, was used in the study. A sample of 322 teachers out of the 2,087 population from 19 schools guided by Research Advisor, 2006 was used before administration of the designed questionnaire. Based on the objectives and research questions raised, findings indicate that teachers’ level of knowledge and skill in ICT use is still low which hampered “mutual and intellectual collaboration” and technical exposure to modern techniques of classroom instructions. Also, it is established that the level preparedness in using ICT in teaching and learning activities by public school teachers of both senior and junior secondary schools within Katsina metropolis is low and remarkably unprepared. Recommendations include, state government should adequately adhere and implement ict policies for schools thereby equipping teachers directly with more portable and mobile ict tools. There should be constant and sustained training of teachers through workshops and conferences related to ICT use, and adequate remuneration, these will expose teachers to the advantages of using modern technologies in classroom activities
