Technological heterogeneity, scale efficiency, and plant size : micro estimates for the West Malaysian manufcturing industry

Investigation of the correlation between technological heterogeneity, scale efficiency and establishment size, based on data for the West Malaysian manufacturing industry in 1973. Technological heterogeneity is found to exist in such a way that there is a switch in scale efficiency: small and medium-scale establishments tend to be scale- efficient at lower capital-labour ratios than larger establishments. Very small-scale establishments are scale-efficient only to a very limited extent. (Economische Voorlichtingsdienst)
