Thailand's Ratification of the 2014 Protocol to the Forced Labour Convention of 1930

Thailand has extensively examined the forced labour under the pressure from the international community for the compliance with labour conventions. This has occurred particularly in the fishing industry. The 2015 official report of the Thai government, however, noted one case of forced labour among 474,334 fishery workers. Actually, there is a gap between law and practice in the course of combating the modern forced labour. Because a person who has not been trafficked cannot be counted as forced labour in Thailand, forced labour is not a stand-alone offense under Thai law
