The Applicability of the Dutch Foreign Exchange in Developing Countries, Least Developed Countries and the Emerging Economies

In Zimbabwe, the foreign exchange auction trading system has been hailed as a solution to the challenges bedevilling organizations mainly those listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (Vinga, 2020). The impact of the foreign exchange trading systems has been questioned after six months of its introduction in June 2020 when the system started to have a huge backlog of funds that needed to be availed to the winning bidders (Bhoroma, 2021). According to The Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers Association the foreign exchange auction trading system failed to improve transparency and efficiency in the trading of foreign currency in the country which have been evidenced with a huge backlog of winning bids which were taking so long to be allocated the funds (Kairiza, 2020). Organizations have continued mentioning failing to settle their foreign obligations on time to acquire the raw materials needed to sustain their business activities. The introduction of the foreign currency auction platform to stabilise the exchange rate has failed to stem the tide of a rapidly depreciating Zimdollar amid skyrocketing prices with the official exchange rate stood at US$1:ZW$83,37 at variance with the US$1:ZW$120 prevailing on the parallel market in February 2021.
