The Impact of videoconferencing on the corporate travel industry

The wave of the future for businesses is technology. New technology isevolving everyday and in particular, the videoconferencing industry issteadily growing. The corporate travel industry may be influenced byvideoconferencing. The focus of this study was to identify the impacts ofvideoconferencing on management decisions for employee travel.A review of literature, focusing on information technology andvideoconferencing was completed. Information was gathered by studyingindustry journals and current publications.A questionnaire was used to collect further research. The survey wassent to decision makers for employee travel. The questionnaire was designedto capture both present and future perspectives. The questions weredeveloped to gather information regarding strategic planning, economicdevelopment, employee growth and customer satisfaction within a corporatetravel department. These areas were used to determine the impact ofvideoconferencing on the corporate travel industry.Overall, the results determined that videoconferencing has nosignificant impact on management decisions for employee travel. However,the study determined two facts that should be considered by corporate traveldepartments and agencies when developing their companies corporate travelstrategic plan. Recommendations for further studies were suggested.Additional research would help the corporate travel industry plan for thefuture.
