Towards a Consilience of Knowledge - Ontological Foundations for Humanistic Management

In this paper we first outline the currently dominant narrative that guides management theory: the economistic narrative driven by the answers to the ontological and teleological questions which are provided by the social sciences. We then outline a humanistic narrative which provides different ontological and teleological foundations, borrowing from the natural sciences. We then argue that a humanistic narrative can guide management theory, practice and pedagogy in ways that allow for more mindful engagement with current sustainability related challenges
