Modern environmental problems are a consequence of human action. They not only pose thepredicament of who is to be held responsible; but exhibit such a complexity, that our ability totake responsibility for interventions into nature at all, is drawn into doubt. And what preciselydoes it mean, to take responsibility or to be responsible for? These questions can be examinedin light of the concept of joint production. In this paper, we focus primarily on theresponsibility of politics. Which responsibilities for our natural environment are to be assignedto politics, which to the individual economic agent? And what are the consequences implied forenvironmental policy?....
