Qualitative and quantitative reliability analysis and risk assessment of IDEF models is of interest to industry for several reasons. It identifies critical activities in a process 1 and (2) extends the usefulness of IDEF3 models by integrating IDEF3 semantics 1 and a formal analysis procedure 1 and decreases downtime and operating cost of the process. To evaluate the risk associated with an IDEF3 model formal tools and techniques are required. In this paper 1 improves the process performance 1 providing a measure of risk for the corresponding decision set. As a result 1 quantitative data 1 redesign risk 1 schedule risk). The IDEF3 methodology is used to capture the macro-decision structure of the design process. Decision sets are identified based on logical connectors in the IDEF3 model. Each decision set corresponds to alternative paths through the IDEF3 model. A risk value is calculated for each path 1 the fault tree analysis technique and minimum cut and path sets generation algorithms are applied for reliability evaluation and risk assessment of the parent activities in an IDEF3 model. A structural and reliability importance measure for parent activities in an IDEF3 model as well as for the elementary activities in a decomposed model are presented 1 the paper (1) provides a method for decomposing the complex decision process inherent to concurrent design 1 thus 1
