A hypothesis test method for detecting multifractal scaling, applied to Bitcoin prices
Jiang, Chuxuan; Dev, Priya; Maller, Ross A. - In: Journal of Risk and Financial Management 13 (2020) 5, pp. 1-21
Multifractal processes reproduce some of the stylised features observed in financial time series, namely heavy tails found in asset returns distributions, and long-memory found in volatility. Multifractal scaling cannot be assumed, it should be established; however, this is not a straightforward...

What can we learn with wavelets about DNA sequences?
Arneodo, A.; D’Aubenton-Carafa, Y.; Audit, B.; Bacry, E. - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 249 (1998) 1, pp. 439-448
We use the wavelet transform to explore the complexity of DNA sequences. Long-range correlations are clearly identified and shown to be related to the sequence GC content. The significance of this observation to gene evolution is discussed.

The origin of an increasing or decreasing multifractal spectrum
Opheusden, Joost H.J. van - In: Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 252 (1998) 1, pp. 10-22
The multifractal dimensionality Dq as a function of q expresses the distribution of measure over space. When all the moments scale with resolution in exactly the same way, we have a flat spectrum, and a single monofractal dimensionality. We argue that for multifractal spectra the scaling of the...
