With Research Guide EconDesk the ZBW offers a chat and e-mail reference service on literature and data search, library use and other library services. For the chat, you can enter a name or an anonymous alias (optional). For e-mail communication, an e-mail address is required. In addition, your IP address is recorded for protection against misuse of the service. This information is stored for 3 months, for the further processing of your request and for the security of the systems, and then automatically deleted. Your e-mail questions and chat dialogues are anonymized manually after 3 months. The anonymized data is stored permanently to improve our service and for research purposes.
For Research Guide EconDesk the ZBW uses LibAnswers from SpringShare LLC. A data processing addendum with the provider has been entered into. In order to use the platform Ebook Central offered by ProQuest/USA you have to authenticate via the login button on Ebook Central with your ZBW user data. After successful authentification or if you were logged in beforehand you will be directed to the chosen ebook on the platform Ebook Central and will leave the services of ZBW. When being directed to Ebook Central no personal data will be transmitted by ZBW. Only a hash (an anonymized combination of numbers) based on your ZBW user number will be transmitted in order to enable the allocation of the data you may create in Ebook Central (e.g. saved ebooks). Personal notes you make in Ebook Central or reading recommendations sent to your contacts via Ebook Central will be saved within the platform and thus on servers located in the US. Our URL shortener ZBW.to creates shortened web addresses (URLs) and is hosted and used by ZBW only. This service is based on the Premium URL Shortener PHP script that collects additional information for each click. The data collected is used by ZBW only and is not shared with third parties. It consists of the user’s country, referring websites, time and date of each access and a value created by anonymizing IP addresses collected by the script. ZBW.to does not store further personal information. The information generated by ZBW.to is used by ZBW for generating anonymous usage statistics, so that the website and the service can be improved.
