What is ZBW?

The ZBW - Leibniz Information Centre for Economics is the world’s largest information centre for economic literature with sites in Kiel and Hamburg, Germany. EconBiz is a service of the ZBW.

If you live in the area of Kiel or Hamburg and have the chance to visit us, you can borrow the holdings of ZBW. All you need is a user card of ZBW which is free of charge.

Login and Password

Login at the top right corner with your ZBW user number.

After login, your loans and the option of renewal can be found below the search field.


Your ZBW password is your bith date in six digits (DDMMYY). You can change your password after login at "My account" -> View account settings -> Change password.

If you forgot your password, go to login and select "I forgot my password". A new password will be sent to your e-mail address.

Order Books and Journals

Hits from the result list that you can order with your ZBW user card have a section "Available at ZBW" below the detailed view. Click on "Request".

If a book is on loan, you can click "Reserve". We will inform you as soon as you can borrow the book if you leave us your e-mail address when you register in the ZBW.

Articles from journals

Select the volume of the journal in which the article was published. Click on "Request".

If a volume is in the ZBW but cannot be found in the list, please use our order form.

New issues from the current year can also only be ordered via order form.

Search only ZBW Holdings

If you only want to search the ZBW holdings, click on database: ECONIS at the left bottom in the filters section. ECONIS is the catalogue of the ZBW.

Please note: By this restriction you also exclude free full texts that are registered in other EconBiz databases and not in ECONIS.
