4th THEMES Summer School - Integrated analysis of complex adaptive systems
The summer school will include 7 theoretical and 3 thematic seminars, plus 3 lab sessions. It will be emphasizes that sustainable development is a process of learning rather than a static goal. Besides integrating the various dimensions of sustainable development, the integrated analysis of complex adaptive systems also requires a deep understanding of the dynamics of technological and behavioural change. This event will: (1) briefly revisit the key themes of events 1-3 (complex systems theory and institutional analysis; appraisal methods), (2) introduce theories and methods from evolutionary economics (incl. relating appraisal techniques covered in event 3 with evolutionary approaches of governance), and (3) explore similarities and differences of complex systems theory, institutional analysis and evolutionary approaches.
