Corporate Finance and Governance: Europe-Japan Comparisons
The organizers encourage submissions on a range of subjects but are particularly interested in papers dealing with empirical evidence on aspects of corporate governance and firm performance, corporate restructuring, financial structures and M&A activity. Papers on policy implications for corporate governance reform programmes are also encouraged. Several specific questions might be addressed: the role of independent board members; what can be achieved by formal codes of governance; changing ownership patterns in different countries and the role of institutional shareholders and shareholders’ voting behaviour; legal structures, the role of auditors, accounting standards and minority investor protection. Submissions on Japan-UK comparisons are encouraged. We would also be interested in papers addressing bank mergers and banking efficiency; changing corporate financial patterns, bank-firm relations, cross-shareholding; the causes of increasing mergers & acquisitions, its implication and appropriate regulation; foreign ownership and openness of financial systems; financial supervision and policy towards financial crisis.
