ERCF - Exchange rates and capital flows
This seminar analyses the causes and consequences of both, stressing that they are inherently linked by the structure of the economy and the nature of the shocks. The following topics are likely to be covered: • an introduction to recent research on exchange rates, in particular market microstructure models, behavioural finance models as well as the new ‘open economy’ macroeconomic paradigm; • aspects of foreign-exchange reserve management; • exchange rates and the transmission mechanism of monetary policy; • the relationship between real exchange rates and capital flows; • the estimation of equilibrium real exchange rates; • the interplay between exchange rates and general equilibrium models; • international capital flows, global imbalances and financial stability; • international financial market integration and its implications for capital flows; and • deriving information from foreign exchange markets for monetary and financial stability policy.
