International Conference on "Social Media Revolution: The end of Traditional Marketing Communication?"
Ever since the internet invaded our lives, doomsayers have predicted the death of print media. However, print continues to survive the onslaught of the internet, despite all odds. In recent times the emergence of social media and its potential to engage in one-to-one communication is redefining the way companies engage with their customers. While paeans are being showered on the new age communication tools like Facebook, Twitter and Google+, the question in the minds of most marketers is: “Is this the end of the road for traditional mass media?” This question has a bearing on many aspects of marketing. The ubiquitous television, which was once a medium to reach out to large sections of the population, is being challenged by the easy access to social media facilitated by penetration of mobile phones. This conference aims to assess the threat posed by social media to traditional marketing communication and the way traditional media needs to reinvent itself in the time to come.
