Business Performance Appraisal of Urban Cooperative Banks in Tamil Nadu

A cooperative is the only form of enterprise in which wealth depends less on capital and more on the men and women who are committed to join it. A noticeable feature of urban banking sector is its financial independence. This is the only sector in the cooperative movement which depends on its own funds without getting any assistance from the State or the Central Government. However, over the years UCBs have confronted certain structural, operational and financial weaknesses which have crippled their financial solvency. Apprehensions have been expressed that the cooperatives will simply not be able to face competition from the private sector and it is very difficult for UCBs to come out of the difficult situation. Under this circumstance, it is essential to find out that the UCBs are able to cope with the challenges in the new economic environment. Hence, an attempt has been made to conduct a study of the Business performance Appraisal of UCBs in Tamil Nadu.It is an analytical study.The present study an attempt is made to examine the viability of the UCBs to judged through the Break-Even business and Productivity analysis
