The Bank of Malaysia, established in 1959, has profoundly affected the development of the financial sector. Its policies and actions in the field of money and credit have been a vital accompaniment and support for the Malaysian government's financial policies. This study deals with the Bank's historical development, its powers over commercial banks and finance companies, questions of currency and specific monetary policies and the relationship with the goverment in particular.
