Faith as Political Epistemology : A Review of Tim Leonard's Illiberal Reformers: Race, Eugenics, and American Economics in the Progressive Era

In this review of Tim Leonard's remarkable book Illiberal Reformers, Race, Eugenics, and American Economics in the Progressive Era, I argue that, having defined progressivism as a political epistemology of faith in the powers of policymaking, Leonard did not follow up several of the interesting implications of this definition. This is less a critique of Leonard, whose interests, quite reasonably, are likely to lie elsewhere, than a personal lament and a call for inquiry into these unexamined implications
