Investor Protection and Corporate Governance— The Interdependence and Inseparability Conundrum
Corporate governance is an indispensable practice adopted by companies and firms with its primary beneficiaries or rather stakeholders being the shareholders. Corporate governance is crucial because it protects investors and supports investors in the market sector. Due to deception and fraud, corporate governance must function effectively and efficiently to safeguard investors. Consequently, this paper discusses corporate governance, including its idea and definition, its guiding principles and characteristics, and its correlation with investment protection measures. It further elucidates on the various SEBI initiatives to further the objective of investor protection through corporate governance and then transitions to bilateral investment treaties while examining the role of corporate governance in the international arena. To sum it up, the paper aims to analyse the significance of corporate governance considering investment protection measures
