Makroekonomsko okruzenje u svjetlu integriranja u Europsku uniju

This paper considers assumptions and possibilities of integration of the countries in transition into the European Union. The author supports some relevant estimates and attitudes by two international scientific meetings where he participated himself. The first one was held under the title "Evolution of the rule of the integral European market" at the University of Exeter, England, 8 to 11 September 1994. The second one took place in Tunisia, 18 to 22 December 1995 as the Xlth World Congress of Economists. Both meetings pointed out similarities and differences in the macroeconomic environment of the countries in transition and the countries of the European Union. There are bigger similarities in law legislature and bigger differences in development level of adequate market, especially banking and financial institutions. After the meeting in Exeter, Slovenia and Croatia joined those countries which could already during this or at the beginning of the following decade (century or millennium) be integrated into the European Union. Beside macroeconomic, the meeting in Tunisia accentuated more macropolitical environment. That especially refers to the choice of model of the welfare society. That can be also applied to Croatia for which the model of neighboring and friendly Austria would be the most adequate. (SOI : EP: 228)
