Socio-Economic Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Cameroon : An Assessment of Poverty, Underemployment and Inequality Levels

The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on poverty, underemployment and inequality in Cameroon. Our methodology is based on documentary research and descriptive analysis using data from the World Bank, the Ministry of Public Health, and the household survey conducted over the period from March 6 to June 31, 2020. The main results show that COVID-19 has contributed to increased poverty and underemployment, leading to increased inequality at the household and education levels in Cameroon. These results provide a solid basis for formulating policies and programs to reallocate non-priority public expenditures to strengthen health systems, to allow for more rapid care of those at risk, and to strengthen social protection
