Nigeria's International Trade Management Potentials within WTO : Gainer or Loser in Global Trade Contracts?

In this paper, Nigeria’s internal trade management potentials were weighted as indicators of its international trade management capabilities. The objective was to ascertain whether or not Nigeria wields enough economic power for a facile integration into the globalized economy. Essentially a qualitative analysis, the major issues addressed in the paper bordered on the vibrancy and resilience of the internal structure of Nigeria’s trade sector. Results of the analysis indicate that Nigerian’s trade sector was characterized by low balance of trade-foreign direct investment ratios, small shares of manufacturers in the country’s exports, and low credit-worthiness rating. All these features are implicated in the country’s lack of management potentials to gain from transactions in the globalized economy in which the ruling paradigm is competitive advantage. Based on these findings, a practical approach towards integration into the globalized economy was recommended
