A Bayesian Network-Driven Strategic Framework for Sustainable Supply Chains
Global supply chains must be decarbonized as soon as possible, which necessitates creative solutions for intricate operational, technological, and environmental interdependencies. This chapter presents a Bayesian Network (BN) driven framework for sustainable supply chains, focusing on green logistics and low-carbon transport. Using BNs' probabilistic reasoning to model uncertainty and causal relationships, it assesses the environmental effects of logistics and the shift to electric fleets. The framework also examines BN-AI synergy for real-time adaptability and predictive accuracy, plus key barriers to sustainability. As a type of socially responsible business transformation (SRBT), sustainable logistics is positioned as a cross-functional reconfiguration of governance, capabilities, and incentives for long-term stakeholder value, not just compliance. The BN framework enables transparent trade-offs between costs, risks, and emissions, aligning operations with North Africa's climate goals and ESG commitments.
