A Comparison of Waste Inefficiency in East Asian Countries

Due to the effects of global warming, environment change has increasingly become a critical research issue and then environment change may be derived from excessive industry development, deforestation, and pollution. In this study, we attempt to evoke people's reflection on environmental conservation and sustainable development via environmental efficiency. In doing so, we utilize waste and wastewater as the undesirable outputs to measure the performance of DMUs (decision-making units). In the model of production DMUs employ inputs to produce some outputs and then they will be good or bad. Furthermore, Färe and Grosskopf (2004) proposed the conception of undesirable output and then the output had been distinguished between good and bad. Therefore, this study not only utilizes the conception of undesirable output and environmental efficiency but also combines waste and wastewater to evaluate and compare the industries in East Asian and then we attempt to provide some suggestions to enterprise, community and government organization in order to facilitate environmentally sustainable development
