A Study of the Relationship Between Students’ Perception Towards School Climate and Students’ Satisfaction at a Selected School for the Blind in Myanmar

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a significant relationship between student’s perception towards school climate and student satisfaction at a selected school for the blind in Myanmar. In this study, the researcher used a quantitative research method. The respondents were 54 grades six to eleven students from the selected school for the blind during the academic year 2018-2019. For the perception of school climate, the researcher used the concept of school climate by Emmons, Haynes & Comer (2002) and for the satisfaction part, Maslow’s theory (1987) was used. The collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, means and standard deviations and Pearson-Moment Correlation Analysis. The results of this study indicated that, in the selected school for the blind, the level of students’ perception towards school climate was moderate, however, the researcher observed that students have a highly positive perception in some sections of the school climate. The average score for school climate revealed that the principal from the selected school needs to improve in some areas of the school climate so that the level of students’ satisfaction with their campus life increase. Nevertheless, this study showed that the student satisfaction in the selected school for the blind was at a relatively high level. According to Pearson-Moment Correlation Analysis, there was a weak positive significant relationship between students’ perception towards school climate and students’ satisfaction at the selected school for the blind in Myanmar. As students have a high negative perception in some areas of the school climate at selected school, the researcher recommended some suggestions which could support the principal, administrators and teachers for improving school climate
