Accounting Skills and Growth of Small-scale Enterprises in Busiika Town Council, Luweero District, Uganda

Descriptive and correlational research designs guided by both quantitative and qualitative data collection approaches were used. The study had a sample size of 143 (86% response rate) small scale business operator respondents who answered a questionnaire. Objective one findings revealed a significant positive relationship (r = 0.224**, P value= 0.007, sig = 0.01) between recording financial activities (bookkeeping) and growth of small-scale enterprises in Busiika Town Council. The null hypothesis was rejected and its alternative positive hypothesis upheld (P-Value<0.01). Objective two findings revealed a significant positive relationship (r = 0.307**, P value= 0.000, sig = 0.01) between financial record analysis and growth of small-scale enterprises in Busiika Town Council. The null hypothesis was rejected and its alternative positive hypothesis upheld (P-Value<0.01). The findings revealed a significant positive relationship (r = 0.199**, P value= 0.000, sig = 0.01) between financial record storage and growth of small-scale enterprises in Busiika Town Council. The null hypothesis was rejected and its alternative positive hypothesis upheld (P-Value<0.01). Study recommendation were; the operators and owners of small scale enterprises in Busiika Town Council should record, analyze and keep records of their day to day business transactions and activities. Small scale business owners and operators should join colleges such as Bugema University and vocational institutions where they can learn more about accounting skills. The local and central government should ensure that all small scale enterprises are registered and all keep books of account for easy accountability. Those without such records should be encourage and if they fail then should be subjected to charges. Learning institutions such as Bugema University and Bugema Vocational institutions should provide affordable accounting courses offered to small scale business operators in Busiika Town Council. Bugema university accounting and finance faculty should organize for seminars and workshops within Busiika Town Council where they can offer voluntary training to small scale business operators about accounting skills
