Age Reporting in Pakistan and its Implications for Fertility Analysis

1t has been generally observed that ages are grossly misreported in developing countries due to various institutional reasons. As a result, all the demographic indicators which are related to age are largely affected. Similarly the effect of-age misreporting 'on fertility rates is liable to have serious implications when data are drawn from different sources such as the Population Growth Estimation (PGE) Project [5, 12] and Population Growth Survey (PGS) [13, 14, IS} in the case of Pakistan. If the patterns of age misreporting are different in these two surveys and in a 'real' population distribution then such fertility measures as Total Fertility Rates (TFRs) and Age-Specific Fertility Rates (ASFRs), derived from them, will be highly affected.
