Alternative improved housing systems for poultry

Alternative improved housing systems for poultry is the subject of this first international seminar examining systems developed in the Netherlands which are not based on battery cages. Reports are presented from several Member States of the Community where other research is in progress and from Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. The main sessions are on: (1) Inventory of the systems developed; (2) Welfare and utilization of space in new housing systems; and (3) Zootechnical and economic aspects of alternative housing systems. The publication Includes some suggestions to show where efforts are needed to extend existing research activities.
