An Ethical Family Structure : A Recipe for National Peacebuilding in Nigeria

The family is a platform where morality or ethics should first be discerned and learned. For it is the first institution every human is introduced to. The family determines the future of a nation, whether it will be a peaceful and conflict-free or conflict-laden nation. Nation Building, Corruption, Poverty, Unemployment and Conflict Resolution are all concepts that require tact and proper intellectual skills to address and proffer lasting solutions to. However, within a nation as large and diverse as Nigeria, with existing conflicts of various sorts, there might be a need to review all institutions within it, seeing them as an advantage towards peacebuilding in the country.The family is the microcosm of every society hence it is the bedrock of civilization and human socialization. The traditionally rooted African ethics that mold the behavior of most individuals in Nigeria and many African societies have been affected to a large extent by western civilization and one form of corruption or the other. It is therefore imperative and expedient to address this pertinent issue -which is the purpose of this Paper. This publication therefore seeks to reawaken the ethical family values and structures that seems forgotten or set aside due to civilization and socialization or westernization, while highlighting some of the challenges and proffering suggestions and recommendations to mitigate this scourge. This Paper also seeks to reveal the ethical ingredients that could rebuild a structural family that is void of unethical and immoral components and how reviewing them can result into fostering peace and serenity within an African Nation such as Nigeria
