Analysis of certain waste streams and the potential of industrial symbiosis to promote waste as a resource for EU industry : executive summary
This study aims identifying five waste streams and the players that are most likely to benefit from increased industrial symbiosis cooperation and to address the drivers for leveraging this economic and sustainability potential. On the basis of a careful analysis of literature, public data sources and multiple interviews with industrial symbiosis practitioners, five waste/by-product material streams have been selected where industrial symbiosis may contribute to the competitiveness of the sectors that are involved. These streams are: pre-consumer mixed food waste and vegetal wastes; construction and demolition related mineral wastes; plastic waste; wood waste, and non-scrap metallic waste.
