Microplastics (MPs) pollution in agricultural soil threatens soil quality and human health which has attracted extensive attention worldwide. However, little information is available on appropriate extraction methods for different typical agricultural soils. In this study, an experiment was designed to assess three extraction methods and their influence on polymer identification by ATR- FTIR for four representative MPs in four typical agricultural soil samples (loess, black soil, red soil and purple soil) in China. The three extraction methods were Water + oil (T1), saturated NaCl solution + oil (T2), and saturated NaCl solution (T3). The four types of MPs include polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), and polyethylene (PE). The conclusions are as follows: (1) Under the T1 and T2 treatments, the extraction rates of the four types of MPs are 86.67%-100.00% in loess, black soil, and purple soil. With MPs density increasing, the extraction rates of the T3 treatment decrease. (2) Due to the presence of iron and aluminum ions in red soil, the extraction rates of PE, PP, and PET are lower than the other three soils under the three treatments, which are 10.00%, 56.67%, and 3.33%, resperctively. (3) The T1 and T2 methods with cleaning of residual oil, and the T3 method are recommended for MPs extraction in loess, black soil and purple soil. The appropriate extraction methods for red soil need to be further studied in the future. Our results can provide technical support for the investigation and treatment of MPs pollution in typical regional soils
