Assessing Causes and Consequences of Urban Decline in Tehran Metropolitan Region Through Sprawl Development
This study aims to investigate the process of urban sprawl as a spatial and visual manifestation of peripheral development of Tehran between 1976-2016. Four important urban development stages such as urbanization, counterurbanization, exurbanization, and reurbanization in relation to population growth and Tehran urban decline and sprawl analyzed. Therefore, required the application of the Distributional Model as well as Moran’s Spatial Correlations at both global and the local level and G general statistics concerning data analysis. Furthermore, it is followed by the application of the Entropy Shannon and Holdren models for the measurement of the degree of metropolitan region urban sprawl during the study period. Tehran city and Tehran Metropolitan Region (TMR) have been experienced a significant population growth between 1976 to 2016, and Tehran city from 2.7 to 8.73 million, Tehran periphery cities from 417000 to 7.24 million, and the TMR from 3.13 to 15.98 million respectively. These changes would spatially exemplify themselves into some degree of urban sprawl and decline. The result of this study proved the positive correlation of pattern and form of sprawl development Tehran urban decline in the TMR. Therefore, providing the future research on balanced TMR development
