Business as Usual Through Contact Tracing App : What Influences Users’ Download Intention?
This study draws on the concept of privacy calculus framework (with social empowerment as the perceived benefit), perceived information transparency and control, and attitudes towards government to investigate what influences users’ intention towards the adoption of contact tracing app. Using fsQCA to address the limitations of previous studies in understanding privacy attitudes and behavioral intentions to adopt an app, this study found that social empowerment is a strong influential condition for this context of study. FsQCA also revealed eight different combinations of asymmetrical relationships of conditions that lead to a positive download intention. Besides recognizing social empowerment as one of the key conditions within those combinations, this study also found the unique position of perceived information transparency in influencing attitudes towards download intention
