SAP AG bought Business Objects SA in 2008. The acquisition is designed to accelerate SAP's growth with the addition of thousands of new customers and a new product line to address the fast-growing market for business intelligence (BI) software. As SAP had its own BI product (NetWeaver BI), the move has been a clear reaction to Oracle buying Business Objects' competitor Hyperion in 2007 (Hyperion is specialised in adding financial and performance management tools for SAP systems).
