Central America Energy Study

This is the latest version available of this document. The study states that perhaps the core problem and challenge for Central American economic recovery is the regions' high cost of energy. The inordinately high energy cost structure for the nations of Central America is caused in part by the weakness of its regulatory institutions. Indeed, as is detailed in the document, the development of the SIEPAC electric interconnection project serves as a microcosm for these challenges. This study is part of the Technical Cooperation "Fuel Price Fluctuations and Macroeconomic Stability in Central America".
