Chapter 12. Developing reflexivity as a leadership capability

Critical reflection, also referred to as reflexivity, is a particularly important leadership capability for dealing with adaptive challenges. In this chapter we discuss and reflect on how we may develop this capability. We present the design and specific experiences from an EMBA course on leadership which built reflexivity into the pedagogical design, curriculum, and process learning. By critically reflecting on our own role as facilitators of critical reflection in light of extant literature, we walk our talk, as we explore our own assumptions, identities, and roles and related challenges. We end on a note on how other educators and management consultants may proceed in order to develop reflexivity as a valuable capability, both in others and oneself.
