Chapter 2. Transport and Climate Change: Five Major Issues

This chapter provides a discussion on the relationship between transport and climate change. From a transport perspective, there is increased travel demand and a continued over-reliance on fossil fuels. This is in addition to worsening climate change issues, such as increased global temperatures and more extreme weather events. This chapter focuses on five major contemporary issues relating to transport and climate change: resolving spatial challenges, accelerating the pace of technologically innovative solutions, the need for industry and individual travellers to make difficult decisions, planning for greater climate change adaptation needs, and dealing with climate injustice. This chapter concludes with a forward-facing approach into how the relationship between transport and climate change may evolve in a net zero context.
