Chapter 26. Supply chains as complex adaptive systems

Complex Adaptive System (CAS) theory is one of the most suited views to explain complex, dynamical, nonlinear, and emergent supply chain behaviours. The CAS view provides a theoretical foundation to study agent or agency related interactions. It helps establish how these agent interactions lead to system level adaptation, evolution, and self-organization. The theory has been effectively used to explore network level cascading or domino effects of outcomes and aspects related to self-organisation or agent adaption.
