Chapter 24. Cognitive apprenticeship as a framework for teaching an entrepreneurial mindset: an exercise in developing entrepreneurial alertness
This learning innovation exercise utilizes the cognitive apprenticeship framework to help students develop their opportunity awareness and noticing abilities through purposeful practice. Cognitive task analysis with expert entrepreneurs was used to generate the modeling of alertness and the skill rubric. Students submit evidence of daily noticing practice over a 3 week period that increases in skill complexity and contextual diversity. Each week they also compare their own skills against those verbalized by expert entrepreneurs through a reflection assignment. After the initial 3 weeks, students are invited to continue to practice their noticing without submissions. They later refresh their abilities with a 1-minute talk-aloud protocol video to demonstrate their entrepreneurial mindset.
