Common Property Resources and Sustainable Development under Indian Legal Framework

Common Property Resources are also a type of Natural Resources that are under the possession of any particular individual, rather such resources are possessed by a group of individuals or a a community as a whole. Since the origin of the concept of CPRs there have been several debates over the issue of their management. Many theories have been propounded regarding the conceptual base of CPR, but issues regarding their management still exists for their better conservation and efficient utilization. At present, the world fraternity has adopted the concept of sustainable development. And to achieve such sustainable development, 17 goals were fixed to be reached by 2030. However, some of these goals are also relevant for better management of CPR which will be highlighted in the paper. Further the issue regarding who shall manage such CPRs in India, the paper has highlighted the shortcomings in the present management system of CPRs by the State, thereby advocating community management of CPR for better conservation and sustainable utilization of such resources to achieve some of the vital goals of SDGs in India
