Comparative Study Concerning Liquidity in the Romanian Banking System
Periodically, there are raised discussions regarding a liquidity crisis following the possibility of massive cash withdrawal from Romania, operation that is likely to be initiated by foreign banks. The paper analyzes the evolution of liquidity based on statistical data from August, September and October 2008 (when the economy was running in afterburner) and the same months of 2011 (crisis/recession?). Primary data were taken from Monthly Bulletins 2008 and 2011 of the NBR and were aggregated by the author, in a different manner, for the purpose of the work. This analyzes the liquidity from the viewpoint of its management by the NBR and the behavior of CI to draw liquidities on the market, from (1) population households and (2) non-financial entities. Also, it is analyzed theuse of resources attracted, namely for primary and secondary inter-banking market operations with state certificates and the situation of the credits granted to the private sector.
