Conflict analysis of the LNG terminal siting dispute in The Netherlands
To demonstrate how the socio-political aspects of energy disputes can be properly considered in energy studies, the methodology of conflict analysis is applied to the political controversy surrounding the siting of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in The Netherlands. In addition to systematically modeling the conflict by putting the historical information into proper perspective, it is shown how conflict analysis can forecast the compromise resolutions to the LNG dispute. The fact that conflict analysis correctly predicts the historical resolution and provides a better understanding of the complex political interactions present in the LNG conflict, clearly points out the efficacy of employing conflict analysis in energy management.
