Convergence of GDP Per Capita Among Coffee Producing and Re-Exporting Countries in the World

This paper applies time series data extracted from different global open data sources to investigate GDP per capita convergence for coffee producing and re-exporting countries. Inspired by the Solow-Swan model, the paper tests the proposition that poorer countries grow faster than richer countries using the coefficient of variation (CV) and weighted β measures. Two independent multiple linear regression models are run for coffee producing and re-exporting countries. The results of CV-test consistently support the Solow-Swan’s proposition but the β -test yields mixed results. Coffee re-exporters fare relatively better in the global coffee value chain than coffee producers in developing countries
