Cordis results pack on microbial blueprints for bioeconomy : microbiomes and holobiomes as drivers of a sustainable circular bioeconomy
Europe is building its bioeconomy using renewable biological resources, such as microorganisms, crops and forests, to produce food supplies, industrial materials and energy resources. The resulting new green value chains and cost-effective industrial processes will help boost the wider economy while protecting biodiversity and the environment. This CORDIS Results Pack showcases the application of 12 EU-funded projects in this field, with benefits ranging from improved soil and ecosystem health to new high-value bio-based products. This CORDIS Results Pack focuses on the role of microbiome-based innovations in creating resilient, resource-efficient and climate-smart systems across agriculture, aquaculture, forestry and bio-based production to advance Europe's bioeconomy. Furthermore, the utilisation of microbiomes via the bioeconomy will help to modernise and strengthen the EU's industrial base while supporting the transition to a circular and low-carbon economy
