Credibility and the dynamics of disinflation in open economies : a note on the Southern Cone experiments

This essay suggests that policies with a quicker disinflationary impact become more credible sooner, and thus have a better chance of succeeding. With that proposition in mind, the objective is to examine and compare the initial impacts of alternative disinflationary strategies in an open economy with capital mobility, using evidence from the Southern Cone experience with preannounced exchange rates for illustrative purposes
