Credibility of Management Education for Enhanced Sustainable Development : A Strategic Quality of Life Model Perspective

This paper presents a strategic model of sustainable development through professional education, specifically management education for enhancement of quality of life, and illustrates how it can ultimately lead to community development. The model contributes to the literature by including the academic paradigm – in addition to the philosophy and practice of management education – as an opportunity for integrating sustainability in management and business education. In addition, it draws from and extends previous empirical and conceptual research, and addresses the needs and weaknesses stated in earlier literature. The model provides a framework for discussion, as well as a framework for action – since it provides faculty, staff, and administrators with options for integrating sustainability in the 3Ps (philosophy, practice and preach) of the institutions of higher learning (IHL). The model is useful for understanding how enhancing current quality of life can be the primary motivator for sustainable development
